Whether you are a trustee of a defined benefit (DB) pension scheme or the finance director of a business that runs a DB scheme, it is likely that apart from corporate activity, the focus is on the size of the scheme deficit (unless you are very lucky), and removing liabilities from the pension scheme and the company FRS17 position. One result of this is that we see Recovery Plan periods extending, and the funding costs having to increase. Therefore, clients are looking to their advisers for answers about how to deal with this problematic issue.
